Feeling Lucky!

We are a wee bit Irish in this house.  My husband's family comes from Ireland, many generations back.  So really an itsy-bitsy wee bit Irish.

So that counts right?

And I've always dreamed of going to Ireland and seeing castles and rolling hills of intense green.  The likes of which I'll never see in Arizona.
Plus it is just fun to make stuff to decorate the house.
Well maybe that more than anything else.

I'm still working through all my pallets and found a much easier way to take them apart.  A sawsall.  I've tried the hammer/crowbar approach and while it's do-able, its much harder and usually splits the wood.  Plus there are some pallets that do not want to be taken apart no matter how nicely you ask.  The sawsall takes care of all that stubborness.  So nice!

I decided to cut up some of the slats into a shamrock to hang on the front door.  I made a big one and some small ones.  I haven't finished decorating with the small ones but I will share when that is done.

First I made a pattern out of construction paper and taped it together.
Then I traced it on to the pallet wood and cut them out.
Sorry no pics, but you get the idea.

I wanted to try a different paint technique I saw online.
I really like it.
All you need is a block of scrap wood and some paint.

Dip the block in the paint and then tap it on the wood.
It gives it a chipy random look.
I did two layers.  Just be sure to let each layer dry completely.
One was white, the other was light green.

I sanded the pieces down after they were completely dry and tied them together with jute.
Then I made some bunting out of burlap, a marker and some ribbon.

It's topped off with a large burlap bow.

Feeling Lucky?

I know I am!

Yes, it counts. I don't have any, but I still decorate for it anyway ~ it's fun.
I think this turned out great and would like to invite you to share it at our party. It is live now.
