Valentines Pallet Hearts

Love is in the air at my house.  My kids keep asking me why I'm doing all this Valentines decorating.
It's not even February for goodness sakes!
Really,  I just love RED.  Plus a girl needs to create sometimes.
It's so fun thinking up new ways to use stuff I already have.
And I love Valentines!
What an fabulous holiday to help you express how much you really luv and appreciate those around you!
Oh yeah, and I can't get enough Red Hearts in my life right now.
Love 'em!

Alright.  Let's get crafting.

First I used some pieces of pallet wood and traced some hearts on them.
Then I cut them out using a scroll saw.

After cutting and sanding, I used a red wash on each piece.
It was 1/2 craft paint and 1/2 water.  I wanted it thin.

Let dry and sand again.
Drill holes in the corners so you can tie the slats together.

I used Jute to tie them together.

Here's my wreath on my front door.
The berry sprigs were left from Christmas.
I made some burlap rosettes and added them too.

Yeah! More Red!

This pot sits next to my front door.
It has more of the love notes from yesterday's post.

Love my entry way!

Now for my Faux Mantel.

I had some foam core left from another project and decided to cut a piece out.
I used a serrated paring knife and it was super easy to cut.
Although the little foam pieces got everywhere!
Thank goodness for my vacuum.

I ripped up some red fabric and and tied them together in a square knot.

Start wrapping and tuck the loose ends in.
Done.

I used a needle and thread to attach the heart to my fabric wreath.
Then when I'm ready to take the heart down,
it's just a little snip snip.

Here's the Wreath before all the embellishing.

I found an old children's song book in my library to add to my shelf.
I paper clipped the pages together so that they hold their heart shape.
This is the back side that goes to the wall.
You need a well loved book so that it will stay open flat.

Here's the little red pallet heart I made at the same time as the large wreath heart.
It goes along side a wicker basket of red flowers,
and a large candle stick with a red candle.

Then I took some scrap burlap and a red sharpie.
I drew the hearts on the burlap,
then sewed them to an organza ribbon to make the bunting.

 I love the finished project!

Happy V-Day Decorating!

Love Notes

I love this Valentines project.  It was simple, sweet, and I only used what I had on hand so it was free.  I have been scouring Pinterest for ideas and liked some of them, loved some of them, but nothing fit what I had in mind.  I hope you like it as much as I do.  Plus you can make your own with the free Printables I have later in this post.  Feel free to print as many as you like.  I think I printed 2 pages of the larger postcards, and 3 pages of the small ones.  Tomorrow I'll show you another way to use these when I show you my front entry.  It's not quite finished but I'll have it by tomorrow.  Anyway let's get started.

Here's the printables.
I made them 8 1/2 by 11 so you can print them out on a regular size piece of paper.
I used cardstock.

Now for the envelopes.  The larger banner envelopes were made out of 6x6 inch pieces of scrapbook paper.
For the smaller ones, I used 4x6 inch pieces.
I cut and folded them like shown.

Next I used the scraps from the large envelopes and cut hearts to add to the outside.  I could have inked the edges, but decided not to.  I glued each envelope closed since I won't be using them for regular things like actual love notes or gift cards.

I remembered I had these cute heart paperclips in my scrapbooking stash and had to use them.
You could also use regular paperclips.
I'm using jute to string them together.

Tie the paper clips with the jute in even spacing.
This keeps them from bunching together when you hang them up.

Slip the notes into the paper clips and you're done.  You could easily save this for Christmas Cards for next year.

This is how I displayed my banner in my kitchen window.

I also made this love note tree with tie wire you can get at Home Depot for about $2.50 for a huge roll.
It's pretty easy to manipulate, although it does get your hands a little black.
A little soap and water takes care of that.

I formed little loops in the wire to tie the notes on with ribbon.
The wire was in 3 large about 3 ft length pieces then folded and twisted in the center to join the 3 pieces.
I used rocks from my front yard to anchor the wires in place and topped them with
glass pebbles to cover the rocks.

The side frames got some V-day printables that you can print for free too.
Some are Portrait and some are Landscape orientation.
Again they are 8 1/2 by 11 inches.

Happy Valentines!

Tomorrow I'll show you my faux mantle scape
and front door!

Number 200 with a Top 10

I can't believe I made it to 200 posts.
My life has definitely changed since I started.
Moves from Phoenix, AZ to Seattle, WA, then back to Phoenix.

Unemployment.

Job Changes.

Major Surgery(I no longer have a thyroid).

Another Teenager.

All my babies in school all day.

A Marathon.

Oh, and Pinterest! ;)

I'm so excited for where my life is going and the things I'm learning.

But before we get to all that, I though I'd look back to my top 10 most popular posts.

I may throw in a few of my favorite projects you may not have seen.

Here we go.

#10.  A Twisted Ribbon Necklace Tutorial.
I loved the simplicity and elegance of this necklace. Plus it looks fabulous when I wear it!

#9.  Artisan Pizza

Super yummy and super easy.  Plus it is whole grain.  Really who doesn't love pizza?!?

#8. My $4 King Tut Costume

My handsome now Teenager boy in his Extremely Inexpensive King Tut Costume.

#7. A Bleachy Halloween Project
A super easy project with what you already probably have on hand.  I definitely see more bleachy upcycles in my future.

#6. Birdcages
I still love seeing this birdcage in my bedroom every morning.

#7. Projectors and Burlap part 1 and part 2.
This is another favorite I get to see in my room every morning.  I'm still so pleased at how it turned out!

#6.  A Family Chore Chart

I still use this every day and have since added more jobs since my baby is now 5 and can do lots of things.

#5. Lemon Bread Heaven

This bread is appropriately named.  Luckily or unluckily depending on how you look at it, the recipe takes a few hours so I don't make it very often.  Maybe that makes it more of a treat when I do.  MMmmmmm... so yummy!

#4. A Petticoat Skirt

I love this skirt!  It was so fun to put together.
A girl can't get enough ruffles!  Well maybe she can, but this one was perfect!

#3. Fabric Wreath

I think this was my favorite project.  It still hangs in my home and you will see it again this week when I show you my Valentines Bunting.  For some reason ripping up an old sheet was super addicting (see #4) and couldn't have turned out better!

#2.  Halloween Grapics

These free printables certainly added to my spooky table decor.  Plus they were super quick to just print and cut.

#1.  Santa in Burlap

This post was hand's down my most popular post.  It was so easy.  Literally it took minutes to make, well minus the set up and clean up.  And he looks so handsome in burlap. Love that stuff!

Thanks for trapsing down memory lane with me today.  It's been fun to see where I've been and shared with you.
If you're new, welcome, and if you've been with me from the beginning, a heartfelt thanks for sticking with me.
I love sharing all the crazyness that floats around in my head.

A special thanks to The Graphics Fairy, Jessica and Mandy at Little Birdie Secrets for all their advice and crafting knowledge, and of course Pinterest for helping me find you!

Here's to the next 200!
See you tomorrow for 201.  Valentines bunting.  You're going to love it!
